Sorry, Been Busy

I know I know it's been a long time since my last post. Things has been crazy at work especially since we are at the last stages of packing things up. Yup. Next week I am officially unemployed.

Hhhmmm time to unearth that resume format.

Knowing When To Move

There comes a time in our lives when there are decisions that need to be made but we find ourselves not able to do it. Mostly, we wait because we feel that we are not ready. But if we continue on this course of thinking and feeling, we will never get that decision made.

I for one, am guilty of procrastinating on some important decisions in my life. No matter how many times I get the same advice from all my friends, from professionals and even from God's word, I still tip toed around the decision I have to make. Until of course something occurred that spurred me to decide once and for all to speak out on an important issue at work.

So when do we know the right time to decide to move?

In my personal experience, when you have prayed about it thoroughly, thought about the pros and cons and asked advices from friends and family, when all things are seem aligned pointing you to the same way, move. Move, regardless of the feeling of not being ready or not having the right words to say. Move.

P.S.

10 Reasons Why I Love My iPod

I absolutely adore my iPod Video. Never mind that there are new models out right now that are rightfully more desirable than what I have right now. It is a given that I cannot afford to get a new one right now and even if I do, I would rather set the money aside for my daughter's needs.

Nevertheless, I have 10 reasons why I love this old iPod of mine. Here goes:

(1) This is a birthday present from my mum back in 2006;
(2) It's a ginormous 60gb - all the music, videos and photos I want are in here;
(3) I always had it with me during our trips to Boracay back when I was still single;
(4) It's a superb companion during long drives to the province thanks to it's connectivity with my husband's car;
(5) The battery hasn't conked out on me yet;
(6) It's one of the things that relax me, playing all the new wave music I want;
(7) I can store simple games in it which helps me pass the time when I'm waiting for my daughter finish therapy;
(8) I can watch my favourite tv series in it without getting a headache;
(9) I love its color - shiny, cool black;
(10) My husband loves it too because we first bonded over the music it played.

Is There Any Hope?

The World's second biggest economy is in a slump. Japan, the land of Honda and Sony in a slump? It is indeed alarming.

When most of the people in the 1st world countries are already in panic mode as early as the latter part of the third quarter of 2008, people here in the Philippines are not that worried yet because of the holidays. The impending gloom of the worldwide economic meltdown was not fully felt, at least not until the new year rolled in.

It's February 2009 now. Intel Philippines has closed down and so has other big companies. A lot of OFWs were sent home because their employers lost their respective jobs. What would happen now? Will the world be plunged into another state of Depression?

Ever since I developed a fascination for international news, CNN has been my favorite channel. Never mind that I don't know what is happening with CSI Vegas and New York. Forget that my husband complains that what I watch is boring. At least my vocabulary has gotten broader the last several months. Economic stimulus and government bailouts. I wonder if the Philippines have something similar? (I don't like watching local news).

Experts are saying the world economy will start recovering by 2010. It seems so far away. But will the world really recover? Will Obama's $789 Billion stimulus package really jump start US economy thus having a good effect on other economies as well? Is there any guarantee at all?

Summer's Just Around

The weather here in Manila is crazy. It was raining like crazy this morning. Now it's 32 degrees C and getting hotter! To think it's just 4:13PM. Shouldn't the sun be letting up a bit now? Our air conditioning here in the office is shot. So you can just imagine the heat.

Wait a minute, summer is just around!

How I miss those days when my friends and I would be in the last stages of preparation for our annual trip to Boracay beach. 4 days and 3 nights of bliss. I miss the total relaxation, the good food and all those attempts to get a tan.

This year is different because harder times call for smarter choices. So that means no beach. Ah, to be young again and spend like there's no tomorrow... But I guess it's really like that, we all have to grow up sometime. I am just so thankful that God enabled me to experience these good things before when I was younger. I know that He will allow it again soon. Till then, I'll be missing Boracay.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Decided to stay at home and go to work after lunch to help my daughter (and her nanny) work on her Valentine's Card for daddy.

The division of labor will be: Nanny will cut the paper hearts and handle the glue application, my daughter Darcy will write the message while I handled the color coordination of the construction papers we will use for the card.

Which Notebook is IT? (Part 2)

Three major factors are to be considered before purchasing a notebook computer - function, form and price. Under function, the main considerations are processor speed, RAM & hard disk size, and power. Consumer purchase also hinges on the notebook's compact size. It also helps that these products are now manufactured in various colors. Lastly, price is a major decision point.

As I have previously mentioned, the Acer Aspire we bought performs more than adequately for my needs. I blog, edit images on Adobe Image Ready and Photoshop CS2, work on projects with Microsoft Works, chat, and watch live video feed with ease.

But what I like most about it is that I can take it anywhere with me. It's not back-breaking to carry it. And with all the free Wifi zones in the city, I can actually work on the fly even if I'm not at home or at the office. The unit we bought comes in a sweet Copper Brown color so it's fashionable to boot.

At Php 23,900 (12 months, 0% interest) it's not heavy on the pocket. Plus, it gives me ample time to recoup our investment on it through my online projects.

There are also other good brands out there in the market. I will post about them soon. Stay tuned!

Continental Flight 3407 Crash

Only less than a month has passed since US Airways Flight 1549 landed safely on the Hudson River, all its passengers and crew safe and sound.

Now the American people are facing the tragedy of Continental Flight 3407. What caused it? How can something go wrong in a split second such that all 48 people on board and 1 person on the ground died just like that?

Let's pray for strength and comfort for those who were left behind by the victims. They are the ones suffering now from unimaginable grief.

Australian Bush Fire

My heart goes out to the people of Victoria, Australia. I cannot imagine the terror and the horror they experienced to have property and lives go up in flames right before their eyes.

Let's pray for them.

Which Notebook is IT? (Part 1)

Despite the current global economic meltdown, people are still out buying notebooks. This is because the prices have gone down considerably compared to the past years. Plus, the engineering of these gadgets are way advance in the sense that though the processors are smaller, they are faster and more energy efficient. But most of all they are more compact than ever.

Notebooks are usually manufactured sans the optical drive, i.e. dvd-rw, combo drive. This actually makes great sense since users do not always use the optical drive. Due to the proliferation of youtube, imeem and (free) file sharing features of the internet, the optical drive is used mainly for installation of programs from CDs. Other than this, it is basically of no use at all because data transfers and back-ups are mostly done through removable hard drives.

More and more students and professionals are ditching their traditional-sized laptops to grab these mini heaven-sent machines. It's portability and power makes it the best friend you'll ever have when doing your work on the go.

I for one, went for an Acer Aspire One notebook. It's powered by Intel Atom processor so the speed is more than ample for the kind of work I log into it. With 160GB worth of hard disk space, getting an extra external hard drive is but a distant thought. But most of all, the energy efficiency gives me enough time to finish all the articles I need in a day. The LCD's viewable area is 8.9 inches. If it sounds too small for your taste, there are other brands and models out there that's quite good too.

Stay tuned for the second part on this...

Last Year's Valentine's Day

I remember during last year's Valentine's day, my husband made a reservation at this restaurant in Connecticut Street, Greenhills. The place is really cozy and the food superb... I think.

It's all my fault why I can't remember how good the food was. My head was adrift, my thoughts not really centered on the occasion because of all the problems at work.

Learn from me, this is not the best way to thank your spouses for arranging a quiet, romantic dinner. When you go out on a date regardless that it be with your spouse or fiance/fiancee or boyfriend/girlfriend, leave your troubles behind. I don't think I even mustered up a decent smile during the whole time. Oh well...

Good thing my husband is so understanding and so patient... If I were in his place I would've bopped me on the head or worst.
